Claudio Ranieri Remains Confident of Avoiding the Drop
Claudio Ranieri remained defiant despite a 3-0 loss against Manchester City in the latest league outing.
The defeat has put serious concerns about Leicester City’s ability to survive in the Premier league, let alone finish in the top half of the table. After winning the league title last season in incredible circumstances, Ranieri clearly made finishing in the top half of the season a priority. He was aware that regular contenders like Chelsea and Manchester City were not going to be down for too long. Hence, Leicester needed to sustain a position in the Premier League rather than aim to defend the title. Furthermore, there were the Champions League group stages to look forward to.
However, this season is proving much more of a struggle than expected, as the latest loss against Manchester City has put the club perilously close to the drop zone. The club are now just one point ahead of Hull City, who have taken two wins and a drop in the last five games.
In contrast, Leicester City have lost to the last four league matches without exception. In fact, they are still waiting for their first win of 2017. Ranieri’s name is forever returning to the club’s history after leading the club to an amazing league title success in this era of domination from the top clubs. Yet, he is certainly not immune from the sack.
“Journalists ask about the players, and whether they are happy with me, and I can tell you they are happy with me.Until the first goal, we were in the match. We were playing to our philosophy, trying to press, trying to do something good.We are together, I have full confidence in the players, and also the players are confident with me. In two minutes we lost our strength,” said Ranieri.
