ATLETICO EMERGE IN THE RACE FOR RANGERS STRIKER
Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos has allegedly emerged as a shock transfer target for Atletico Madrid. The Spanish giants have struggled for goals this season. They have scored 31 goals this season, the lowest among the top six. To look at their goal tally from a larger perspective, the sixth placed club are 11th on the goal scored log.
Top striker, Diego Costa has suffered from injuries this season and he has failed to lead the line in his usual self. Alvaro Morata has scored 12 goals in 32 appearances for the club this season. The Roji Blancos are in need of extra firepower upfront and they have identified Colombia international Morelos as the ideal player to complement what they already have at the club.
Despite numerous dismissals and disciplinary actions against him during his time at Ibrox, Morelos has been a huge hit and a fan favorite, he has scored 77 goals from 137 appearances in all competitions.
Rangers will love to keep the Colombia international in the long term, but the form of the player is attracting interest from top clubs across the continent. There have been offers for the players from the Premier League. Liverpool and Everton have made enquiry about the player's availability in the past. If Morelos continues to score the goals for Rangers, there is an inevitability about a future exit.
According to reports in Spain, Atletico are contemplating trying to tempt the Scottish giants into a sale later in 2020. They will make a move for the player at the end of the season.
The deal to sign the player from Glasgow will be tough one for the Madrid based club. The 23-year-old has over three years left on his contract, is likely to cost in excess of £30 million.
