Bartomeu believes that the club are extremely lucky
Barcelona president Bartomeu believes that the club are extremely lucky to have a player like Lionel Messi on-board.
The Argentine was once again responsible for the club lifting more trophies in 2015. The 27-year-old played an influential role in the club’s win over River Plate in the Club World Cup. The president also brushed off any rumours about the team going on a barren run of form due to complacency. Barcelona have been immensely successful since 2008. Even though they have gone through some managerial changes during this period, it has been one of the most eventful in the club’s history.
However, almost everyone is aware that all good things must come to an end. Since Lionel Messi has not been performing at the very best in the last 12 months, there have been rumours that the Argentine is starting to decline after hitting his peak. Only a couple of years ago, Messi came up with almost 100 goals in a calendar year. He also won the FIFA Ballon d’Or award thrice in succession, but he has conceded the title to Cristiano Ronaldo in the last two seasons. Bartomeu believes that the hunger to win trophies is something that grows with the players at Barcelona and will not go away.
“This team will not drop off, we don’t need to worry about this team and these players. This team never tires of winning and the club members should be proud of the players we have. Luis Enrique is the best coach we could have at the moment. Messi wanted to play, you could clearly see that in the game. He was fired up and so was the rest of the team. In 2003 Ronaldinho gave us our smile back. But now we have Messi, the best player of all time,” saidBartomeu.
