Claude Puel’s Leicester City Future Far From Certain
Leicester City are reportedly considering the position of manager Claude Puel following the club’s average showing in the backend of the season. Puel succeeded Craig Shakespeare as the new Foxes head coach in October and the Frenchman has recorded 12 wins and 10 draws from his 32 games in charge.
Despite the decent record, the club’s hierarchy are worried about their league form with just 10 points accumulated from their previous 11 games and this has raised doubts over Puel’s position prior to the close of the season. According to The Mail, the Foxes are expected to be active in the transfer market during the summer but there are no assurances that Puel will remain at the helm.
Nevertheless, the east Midlands outfit are set to go with their plans of selling Riyad Mahrez and whoever is in charge may also have the funds from the Algerian’s sale at his disposal. As recently as last month, Leicester were in the running to secure a Europa League spot but they now look certain to miss out and have to settle for a top-half finish to the campaign.
Leicester have managed to overcome their difficulties since winning surprisingly lifting the Premier League crown during the 2015/16 campaign but next season could be their toughest yet with several of their main players associated with summer exits. Mahrez is almost certain to leave the King Power Stadium after failing to have his wish fulfilled in recent transfer windows and he may be joined by the likes of Jamie Vardy, Wilfried Ndidi, and Harry Maguire.
Vardy has supposedly been earmarked as a potential target for Everton ahead of this summer’s transfer window whilst Wilfried Ndidi is seemingly attracting interest from Liverpool and Arsenal. Maguire, on the other hand, remains a target for Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur with the latter having previously failed to lure him from Hull City.
