Leicester City are close to achieving the impossible task
Leicester City are close to achieving the impossible task of staying up in the Premier League despite being bottom of the table on Christmas.
The team climbed out of the relegation zone after securing four successive victories in the league. The latest came in the 1-0 win over their relegation threatened opponents Burnley. This victory has helped them secure a single point buffer over the drop zone. There are still matches against top teams like Chelsea and relegation threatened with teams like QPR and Sunderland still left in the season. As a result, manager Nigel Pearson says that the club are far from being safe just yet.
The fact that Leicester have climbed out of the relegation zone from that almost impossible position is likely to have players into a complacent mood going into the next couple of matches. The club have no time to rest as they have to immediately prepare for a match against would-be champions Chelsea. The blues have a 10 point advantage over Arsenal in the Premier League table and will be the visitors to the King Power Stadium on Wednesday. The recent wins for Leicester have come against teams around them in the table, but Chelsea will be a much sterner test.
"To win four on the trot is a good achievement. But I am aware people may start feeling the emphasis of our pressure has changed and that is nonsense. If people think the hard work's done, they're in for a shock. With five games to go it is important to keep our fate in our hands, so we have a lot of difficult games to play.At this stage of the season it is about getting the right results,” said Pearson. Leicester are currently the inform team in the bottom half of the table.
