Leicester City have joined the elite band of clubs
Leicester City have joined the elite band of clubs to have achieved the great escape after being bottom of the Premier League table on Christmas.
The club’s hopes of staying in the top division appeared to be destined for failure six months ago. However, the club went through an impressive run of form in the final three months of this recent to confirmed their stay with a game left. After suffering a 4-3 defeat against Tottenham towards the end of March, Leicester went on a run of seven wins from nine games to stay in the league.
During this period, Pearson switched to a back three and the opposition found it extremely hard to deal with this new style of football from the relegation threatened outfit. Ironically, Pearson was close to losing his job a few months ago due to persistent poor form. Leicester were rewarded for their persistence and patience with the manager. Pearson is not ready to relax on the achievements, as he says that the work for next season has already begun. The club are trying to complete their transfer dealings as early as possible. Much of the strengthening is expected to come in the defence after the club let go of Matthew Upson.
"I think to assure our status in the Premier League was a massive moment for us, and to do it with a game to spare as well, that gives people an opportunity to maybe enjoy it a little more. But there have been lots of little moments which were very important. There have been a lot of difficult times as well but the final whistle to secure safety was a very important moment for us.You can see from the reaction of everyone associated with the club, form our own fans and the players and the staff, it was a great moment,” said Pearson.
