Lucas Leiva’s time at Anfield had come to an end
It appeared that Lucas Leiva’s time at Anfield had come to an end when it was reported that the player was discussing a loan move to Besiktas towards the end of the transfer window.
The Brazilian came to Anfield when Rafa Benitez was the manager. Several managers have come and gone since Lucas came to the club. Lucas went from being criticised heavily during his first few years into one of the club’s fan favourites. However, he has once again lost his place in the team and this time around it looks like the nail in the coffin for the 28-year-old.
Since he remains very keen on playing at international level for the Brazilian national team, Lucas cannot afford to sit on the sidelines for Liverpool hoping for the likes of Jordan Henderson to suffer an injury. Hence, he was contemplating the prospect of leaving Liverpool at least on loan spell in order to build his confidence. Turkish clubs have been extremely active in the transfer window and it was the case with Besiktas, who came very close to securing Lucas on a season-long loan deal. However, the move failed at the last hurdle, but Lucas remains happy that he was kept at Liverpool due to various reasons. He is now hoping to compete for his place.
"I think the last couple of years, every transfer window my name is linked with a move. It's been very intense.Of course there are times when you think you might have to move on and I was very close to moving, but one thing I will always have is commitment to this club.I've been here so long and I always said if I had the choice to be here and be happy, I would always choose Liverpool,” said the 28-year-old midfielder.
