Riyad Mahrez Unsure about Playing Position under Pep Guardiola
Riyad Mahrez has made a £ 60 million move to Manchester City to become the club’s most expensive player of all time. The former Leicester City winger, though, has revealed that he is in dark when it comes to the position that he will play under Pep Guardiola. The Spaniard is a manager who is known for getting the best out of his players by using them in unnatural positions. He has made the likes of Javier Mascherano, who was a successful midfielder, into a successful defender during his time at Barcelona. As a result,Mahrez says that he is not sure about the position he will play at the Etihad Stadium in the upcoming 2018-19 campaign.
It is a rather surprising statement from the 27-year-old considering that he would have made the decision to move to Manchester City only after holding talks with the manager. This is especially important for a player at this stage in his career, as Manchester City have a wealth of attacking talent already available in his position. The likes of Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne, and David Silva all compete for the same position. There are also rumours that Manchester City may make a move for Gareth Bale if he becomes available in the next couple of weeks.
After having been in discussion with Manchester City for a long time,Mahrez is delighted to have finally made the move."I never thought about this [competition]. I am very confident about myself. What they have done is amazing work. They broke all the records in the Premier League. The prices have been big in every country. This does not affect me. The Champions League is for big clubs, they're a big club. They have everything to try to win the Champions League,” said Mahrez.
