SHAKESPEARE DENIES RANIERI FALLOUT AHEAD OF ATLETICO CLASH
The only Premier League side remaining in the UEFA Champions League this season Leicester City are set for a showdown against La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.
Ahead of the highly anticipated match former manager of the team Claudio Ranieri hinted that there were problems in the English team’s camp but refused to say anything further.
Current caretaker manager Craig Shakespeare was forced to respond to the ‘issue’. He said he had spoken to the former boss on the day he was sacked and that their relationship was well.
“Claudio was in good humour. He came across exactly as I know him. My stance is the same from my first interview when I stated that I’d spoken to Claudio the night he was relieved, he thanked me for my time and I thanked him. He said it was football. It was good to see home enjoying his football and he came across really well,” the Foxes caretaker said.
Leicester have a tough task ahead of them as they face the Spanish side. Their growing confidence was cut short with the 4-2 loss to the Toffees over the weekend in the Premier League. Before then they had sailed to five league victories that lifted them from the threats of relegation.
Leicester would also be without their skipper Wes Morgan. The defender travelled with the team for moral support but he is not expected to feature. They face an Atletico team with their enviable attacking options complete.
They have the advantage of hosting the return leg in England. A good result in Spain would go a long way as many back them to shock the continent. However, Atletico are a side that would not be intimidated in an away clash.
